Act a Fool is a Rap/R&B type song. The playful and comedic characteristics of the lyrics and the beat emphasize the tone of the track in the manner of it being characters acting as fools towards each other. Act a Fool is a song of a back and forth conversation with the female character having control of the chorus, while the male character controls the verses. The idea of the song is plainly the idealistic effect of "Love" in a relationship. The female character is aware of the male characters' flaws, and how he is insincere/deceptive, but still he has authority over her heart. This makes the female character feel like a fool in the relationship, because she is afraid to admit that she's in love with the male character even though she is aware of his character.
The Male Character begins his verse by trying to shun her judgement of himself, and placing the idea that she's being worried for nothing . He then begins to reassure her stating how much he cares, and how much fun they have together, and how he is who he is, clearly showing that he is a manipulator. In the second verse the male character takes a firmer stand in explaining that he isn't someone to be toyed with and how much she means to him. He takes on a persona to cover up his act.
The idea being miscommunication, pride, love, and deceit.
